Sustainability in practice at Spa Resort Geinberg
Preserve. Relax. Experience.
When you arrive at the Spa Resort Geinberg, you’ve already taken your first step toward climate friendliness. Because the CO2 footprint you would have left behind from your stay has already been reduced to a minimum in advance through internal measures.
It’s made possible by “Green Geinberg”, a comprehensive sustainability concept that is implemented at all levels and continuously supplemented and refined.
Heat turns to cold
It sounds like magic, and is pure physics. “Geothermal energy” is the magic word. The resort has been heated in this way for years, and the BIOhof Geinberg, a nearby organic farm, is also heated CO2-free with the aid of geothermal energy sources and our return flow.
We have been able to cool emission-free for some time now, as well. Water heated to 100°C from VAMED's geothermal energy flows through a cooling machine via an absorption chiller system. It enters a closed water circuit, where the water temperature is kept at a constant 6°C. When needed, it’s used for eco-friendly air conditioning throughout the four-star hotel, including all restaurant and kitchen areas.
A single small fan is sufficient; no additional electricity or harmful coolants are required. For even greater ecological and economic efficiency, the cooling machine only switches on when the outside temperature reaches 24°C and the doors and windows are closed. The absorption chiller system is already ensuring pleasant temperatures in two-thirds of the resort, and an expansion of the system is on the wish list.
Saved miles, more enjoyment
Fresh food that is eaten right where it grows tastes better, and every mile saved in transport contributes to greater sustainability. For this reason, the Spa Resort Geinberg began building a network of regional suppliers years ago and has now clearly positioned itself as a leading company for regionality.
This commitment is very evident at the Geinberg5 Restaurant. The menu features mainly seasonal and regional products, with herbs and mushrooms sourced directly from the forest whenever possible. The juice bar uses delicious fruits from regional orchards and clearly shows that the best things are right under your nose!
A heart for six-legged creatures
Wild bees, lacewings, ladybirds and many other beneficial insects find a protected winter home in the insect hotels on the grounds, where they can nest and develop. For several years, we have been cultivating certain areas as wildflower meadows to preserve and promote biodiversity.
Green relaxation – certified organic and vegan
At VitalitySpa, the focus on sustainability is on “organic” and “vegan”, and all our Team Dr. Joseph products are certified accordingly. And at Oriental World, the packaging and rental beach bags are handcrafted from recycled materials.
The journey continues!
Sustainability, in this comprehensive form, requires constant new input. At Spa Resort Geinberg, a dedicated project team is responsible for implementing “Green Geinberg”.
